Training and guidance

Onboarding can start before the first day

A new employee's first day is full of new things. They need to find the entrance, the changing room, their workstation and the break area. At the same time they should remember the safety instructions. Nobody learns all of it in a single walk-through.

A workplace, such as an office or a warehouse, is hard to describe in text alone. A floor plan and a handout tell you where something is. They do not tell you what the place looks like when you stand in it.

Once a 3D version of the workplace has been built for the browser, a new employee can get to know the premises before the first day. They open a link on their own device and move through the 3D version at their own pace. There is nothing to install.

What a new employee can practise beforehand

The 3D version can show, for example, the routes, the exits and the meeting point for an evacuation. Calesta's Cyravo training already includes them. These are things that are often explained quickly on the first day. A familiar route can be easier to recognise later.

The first day can then focus on what needs a person: meeting the team, learning the work and asking questions. The person who introduces them to the workplace does not have to explain every door and corridor from scratch.

What it can give the employer and the new employee

For the new employee, onboarding can be calmer. They can return to the 3D version whenever they like and do not necessarily have to ask the same thing again. On the first day the place is already partly familiar.

For the employer, the content can be the same for every new employee, even when the person doing the onboarding changes. It can reduce a supervisor's repeated walk-throughs and help keep the important things included. When the space or the routes change, the experience can be updated without having to change every onboarding session.

What it does not replace

Onboarding in the browser does not replace guidance on the first day or your workplace's own safety practices. It can help prepare the new employee for both. What is shown in the 3D version, and who is responsible for the content, is the employer's decision.

Cyravo, Calesta's example of safety training, builds on the same idea: a familiar place and situations practised beforehand can make acting easier.
